Despite every encouragement, the beast remained completely unimpressed.

They rang the bells. They brought out the entertainer. There were gestures, flourishes, and what appears to be a truly unreasonable amount of enthusiasm. The beast responded by sitting down, crossing its arms, and refusing to participate.

The Beast That Would Not Perform is for anyone who has ever been expected to smile, play along, be productive, entertain the crowd, or otherwise demonstrate the appropriate level of enthusiasm on command. Sometimes the strongest move available is simply declining the performance.

Rendered like an advertisement for a forgotten traveling attraction, the design pairs an enormous stubborn bear-creature with its increasingly desperate human handler. Antique typography, weathered illustration, and a restrained ivory, indigo, and faded-red palette give the whole thing the character of an old broadside celebrating history's least cooperative attraction.
